If you live a normal life while visiting Vegas, the information I’m going to offer in this article will probably never apply to you (you still might find it interesting, though).
But, if you like to bend the rules or otherwise live on the edge, this information could help you make thousands of dollars. I know this may be a little different from my usual content about strippers and escorts, but I think you’ll see how it’s related.
What I’m going to talk about is getting detained by casino security. This can happen for a variety of reasons, and it can happen to both men and women.
When this happens, there’s a few tricks you should know that can keep things from getting worse. But not only that, these tricks may set you up for an easy payday if the casino breaks the rules…which they do a lot.
So, with that being said, let’s get into what to do if you get detained by casino security.
Reasons You Might Get Detained
For the purposes of this article, I’m going to assume you got detained by the casino for doing something borderline sketchy, or they simply had no reason at all to detain you. If you just flat out stole chips or punched someone in the face, then you’re an idiot, and this won’t help you.
The advice in this article applies to advantage players, guys out partying a little too hard, card counters, escorts, or others who just push the boundaries, and the casino sometimes has had enough and detains them for various reasons.
This is different from simply getting “trespassed” from a casino, which I cover in this article about whether or not you can return after getting kicked out.
What Happens When Casino Security Detains You
As you probably know, Vegas was founded by mobsters, and it was run by mobsters in some capacity until the 1990s. Back in the mob days, the casinos dealt with cheaters or other people they didn’t like by either throwing them out, or roughing them up a little.
While the roughing-up doesn’t happen anymore, some of that old mob culture still lives on today. Security can’t rough you up, but they still like to push things and intimidate people, and part of that is detaining you for longer than they’re allowed to.
They do this to scare you. Not only that, they hope you tell others that you had to spend 5 hours handcuffed in the musty basement of a casino after you got suspected of card counting, or whatever you happened to be doing that pissed off security.
The whole purpose is to dissuade people from acting up in a casino.
But here’s the catch. They aren’t allowed to detain you for that long. They get away with it because most of the people they detain are from out of town. When those people get released, they feel relieved and don’t want anything to do with that casino again.
Another reason is the person may have been doing something sketchy, like counting cards or working as an escort. But even then, the casino isn’t legally allowed to detain you indefinitely or to purposely inflict fear.
But, people in these situations generally feel they “dodged a bullet” once released, so they just count their blessings and forget about it.
And here’s where you can make money. If you play your cards right (no pun intended) you can turn one of these detainments into an easy settlement. This is possible even if you were doing something a little sketchy like counting cards.
The Most Important Thing to Do if Detained By Casino Security
In order to take advantage of this if it ever happens to you is to stay totally calm. Don’t act up, don’t yell and scream. Don’t make a scene.
Just go along with everything casino security says. Don’t admit to anything, but don’t make a scene or argue in any way.
The reason you do this is because it’s all going to be caught on camera. If you’re acting totally calm on camera and following instructions, they won’t be able to claim they had to detain you for a long period of time.
If you’re acting unruly or combative, they can continue to detain you because you’re considered a safety threat to the workers and the other guests of the casino. This is why you must remain totally calm and cooperative.
The amount of time they can legally hold you isn’t set by any law, but it must be justified and reasonable. Even if you committed a felony (which isn’t what this article is dealing with) they still can only hold you for the reasonable amount of time it would take to contact police to take over the investigation.
My point is, if they accuse you of card counting, or if you’re a woman and they accuse you of escorting, they can’t hold you for several hours. If they do, and you stay totally calm, you can file a civil lawsuit.
If you do, nine times out of ten they will settle.
The reason they settle is simple. They want to keep doing this. If they go to court, a precedent can be set, and new regulations may be made regarding the limits of casino security. If they just settle here and there, they consider that a simple cost of doing business and a worthwhile tradeoff.
If you follow all of my advice and act completely calm and follow all instructions, the casino will likely not want that video evidence shown in any type of civil case. It will hurt their case.
In most cases, casinos here in Vegas will say they have no footage, or that the footage was lost if they feel it will hurt their case. I know that sounds illegal, but the casinos do it all the time when the footage doesn’t show what they want. They simply pretend it got deleted by accident.
This immediately puts you in a position to collect a settlement, as the casino is essentially saying they don’t plan on defending themselves in court.

You might think that doing this is a type of scam or hustle, and that’s not my intention at all.
My point is that even though Vegas isn’t run by the mob anymore, casinos still like to break the rules and intimidate people when they can. If they mistreat you, and you handle it right, you can win.
It’s no different than a game of craps or a spin of the roulette wheel. The casino bets that people they hold for hours won’t file any lawsuits, but sometimes they bet wrong.
And if they do, you can walk away with an easy payday.
