Will Las Vegas Police Arrest You for Picking Up a Prostitute?

In case you didn’t know, prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas, including the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding areas. But as most people also know, that doesn’t keep prostitution away.

The casinos are filled with hookers, especially on weekends. For the most part, security turns a blind eye as long as the hookers don’t get out of control and start bothering guests.

But what about the police? Will police arrest guys who try to pick up a hooker? How often does it happen?

If you’re curious about any of these questions, I’ll give you my answer below.

The Police Keep More of an Eye On The Escorts Than Customers

To start, this is NOT legal advice. You should never do anything illegal, and I don’t suggest you do anything illegal. This website is entirely for information purposes, so that you can fully understand what goes on in Las Vegas.

With that being said, the police that patrol the Las Vegas Strip (referred to as METRO) do keep tabs on escorts.

I’ve had countless conversations with active escorts in town, and they have told me stories about undercover METRO officers approaching them. However, it’s not usually to solicit prostitution and “bust” them in an undercover sting.

Instead, they mostly look for intel on past crimes or fraud by other escorts. As you may know, there are tons of hooker scams in Vegas, and some hookers steal upwards of $100,000 from unsuspecting visitors looking for a good time.

METRO is very interested in finding these girls and anyone they work with, such as pimps.

When it comes to the actual prostitution where the guy and the hooker both leave happy, the cops don’t really care too much about that.

Once again, this isn’t legal advice; it’s simply an observation after talking to countless escorts who work in Las Vegas.

How Las Vegas Police and Casinos View Prostitution

To give you an idea of how little the police care about low-level prostitution, let me give you a common example.

When gamblers get robbed by a hooker, even if it’s just a scam-type of robbery without any violence, METRO will spend months trying ot locate the hooker.

But here’s the interesting part: they don’t even care that the victim was obviously hiring a prostitute.

In these cases, it’s clear to anyone with any common sense that the guy who got robbed was trying to hire a hooker. But, as long as he just says he met the girl in the casino and they both went back to the room, the police don’t pursue the prostitution angle and don’t press charges against the guy.

In 99% of the cases I’ve seen where a guy got robbed by a hooker and then filed a complaint, they never look into what the guy was doing.

We had a case a few years back where a hooker stole over $100,000 in watches from a guy. Undercover METRO agents were making contact with other hookers all over town to try to track the suspect down.

After a few months, they arrested her. This shows you how seriously they take robberies, but they don’t care about the underlying prostitution that much.

What this means is that if you do get robbed of a decent amount of money, you can go to the police. I go into more details here about how to deal with a Vegas escort if you get robbed. You have a few options, but just remember your complaint will be public.

So, if you only lost a few hundred bucks, it’s best to consider it a life lesson.

Let me give you an example of that.

I had a personal experience where an escort I planned on seeing started causing a scene and ran out of the hotel room with the money.

I usually avoid any drama and would have just let it be, but security busted the girl while she was making her way out of the casino. Apparently, she was yelling and fighting with other people on her way out.

Scammy escorts can be drama queens.

Anyway, when security caught up to her, she said she was in my room, so security and a METRO officer came to ask me questions. It was obvious that A) She was a hooker, B) She was just in my room. C) She had several hundred-dollar bills on her.

But neither METRO nor security cared. They asked if everything was ok. I said I was fine, and that was the end of it.

I have another article that explains how you should handle a scam or robbery in Las Vegas.

It’s good advice in case you have a date that goes south while in Las Vegas.

Bottom Line

As I said before, this isn’t legal advice. But in over a decade, I’ve never heard of METRO having an undercover sting to bust guys looking for prostitutes inside or around casinos.

I have seen a few undercover stings online here in Las Vegas, but those are usually targeting guys doing other illegal things, not just adults looking for other legal-aged hookers.

One of the reasons there are no undercover stings is that for cops to get a conviction, the undercover prostitute would have to go all the way to your room and accept the money. Simply talking about it isn’t enough.

But this puts the undercover female cop in a very dangerous situation with no backup. She’s in a stranger’s hotel room, and cops have no access to the room to monitor what’s going on.

It’s just too operationally difficult for them do, so they never do it here.

Hopefully, this answered your questions about prostitution busts in Las Vegas and how common they are. If you’re truly worried about legal implications, you can always try a legal brothel in Vegas. These are more expensive, but there is zero risk of any complications.

The biggest red flag that a hooker is going to rob you

Escorts, hookers, and Vegas are pretty much synonymous. Other than gambling, it’s one of the main things the city is known for.

Experienced Vegas travelers know that they should use an escort review site to minimize the chances of something going wrong when they hire an escort.

But still, countless people (including myself) occasionally pick up a “casino girl”. That’s the escorts most people think of when they think of Vegas. These escorts hang around casino bars and wait until they find a single guy to prey on.

Sometimes they’re legit, and you get what you pay for. Other times, they scam you.

If you’re looking to gamble on a Vegas escort, this is the number one red flag that she’s probably going to scam you or worse.

The Eager Beaver

You can call this type of escort the “eager beaver”. It’s the escort who immediately wants to start talking business and get you to say yes as soon as possible.

Let me give you a typical scenario of how this escort works.

You’re hanging out in a casino bar or maybe just walking from the table games to the bar. An escort makes eye contact with you, and as you sit down, she grabs a seat next to you.

She makes it pretty obvious she wants to talk, so she makes sure you notice her looking at you.

Here’s why she may not talk first. Some casinos kick out escorts if they talk to the guys first. Security tolerates the hookers, but if they start approaching customers unsolicited, they get kicked out. So, it’s not unusual for these girls to sit next to you and really try to get you to notice them, so you say something.

Once you say something, she immediately wants to know where you’re staying. The eager beaver escort always wants to know what hotel you’re at so she can plan the next move.

Once you tell her, and it’s somewhere she feels she can go (some individual hookers are banned from various resorts for getting caught in the past), she immediately starts asking if you want to “have some fun” or something along those lines.

Remember, at this point, you haven’t even exchanged your names or had any small talk.

The reason this is such a red flag is that most legit escorts who are actually going to have sex with you want to get a basic idea of who you are first. They have no idea who you are or what your background is.

Real escorts worry about physical safety above most everything else.

Legit escorts will generally engage in real small talk before moving on to seeing if you want to hook up. They do this for their own safety, and also just to make sure you’re a guy they’re willing to have sex with.

When escorts bypass this step, it means they likely have no intention of going through with any type of sexual activity you both agreed on during the conversation. They don’t care about feeling you out and making sure you’re safe because they’re the unsafe ones.

At best, an escort like this is working alone and will just try to upsell you or steal your money in one way or another.

At worst, she has a pimp or boyfriend nearby, and they plan on robbing you another way.

These girls usually prey on drunk guys. Drunk guys don’t find it suspicious if a hooker just starts immediately talking about having sex. She’s a hooker after all, so it sort of makes sense.

But they also prey on businessmen or guys who look like they may not have experience with that sort of lifestyle.

Overall, if a Vegas hooker is very aggressive and starts talking about hooking up before you even make any small talk, she’s likely going to scam you. There are some exceptions to this rule, and it’s usually escorts who are new to the game and not that bright. They just want to land their first client and make money as fast as possible.

However, this situation is like 1% of the Vegas eager beaver hookers. The rest are just scammers.

How A Normal Hookup Will Go

Meeting a legit escort will start almost exactly as I described earlier, with the eager beaver escort. The difference is when you start talking to her.

She may ask you where you’re staying, but she’ll also ask where you’re from, what you do, and why you’re in town.

Be on the lookout for signs she’s trying to feel you out to confirm you’re a normal person capable of normal interaction. I don’t mean an interrogation, but the talk of sex will take at least 5-10 minutes to get to…sometimes longer.

I’ve had escorts sit next to me, and we talked and drank for over an hour before either of us mentioned hooking up. Some hookers in Vegas do this because they think they can get a guy to “fall for them” if they put in a little effort. Whether you appreciate this is up to you, but generally, it means she’s a legit escort.

As with everything in life, there’s an exception to this rule as well. If she’s making conversation, but trying to get certain details that seem strange, then that could be a red flag. For example, if you just won big at the tables, she starts asking about your money situation.

Other examples are if she shows an unusual interest in a nice watch or other piece of jewelry.

Obviously, those aren’t the kind of conversations you should trust.

But a standard “getting to know you a little” chat, that’s a good sign when it comes to hookers.

Always be On Your Guard

Even though I talked about the biggest red flag when it comes to Vegas hookers, that’s definitely not the only one. Vegas hooker scams come in all shapes and sizes. These girls sometimes spend 10 hours a day in these casinos, and they’re practiced at scamming guys.

Make sure to always be on guard. Don’t let it ruin your vibe or make you come off as a weirdo, but always keep the notion in the back of your mind that there could be some kind of scam going on.

If you notice something fishy, trust your instinct and walk away. There’s always a different escort around the corner in Vegas.
